The BMC is a membership organisation and the voice of its members sits at its heart. National Council, the body of elected volunteers who represent your views is evolving and we want to hear your feedback on the aims and objectives of the new Members’ Council.
Since its establishment in 2018 the Organisational Development Group (ODG) has been
committed to implementing organisational change in line with the spirit of the Organisation Review Group (ORG) report by making recommendations to the Board of Directors.
Many changes have already been implemented and you can read the latest update from the ODG here. Following the move of the 2020 AGM online due to the COVID-19 crisis the consultation on the remaining areas of the ODG’s work has been extended.
On Thursday 23rd July we are running the first of two member engagement webinars on Zoom to provide you with the opportunity to find out more and give feedback on a set of papers containing recommendations relating to ways of working. These papers will then go to the Board in the Autumn and then to the 2021 AGM.
The first webinar will focus on the reconstitution of the National Council with a presentation on the proposed Terms of Reference for the Members’ Council. You will hear from Helen Wilson and representatives from the working group that has led on developing the proposals. They will take questions and feedback on the proposed changes and contents of the document that will govern the running of the council once adopted.

Also at this webinar, Andy Syme and Lucy Valerio will present a paper on a set of voting procedures which will govern how elected positions at any General Meeting or AGM of the BMC are to be decided so there is a standardised approach.
Finally, there will be a presentation from Fiona Sanders, Chair of the ODG about the remaining work of the group and the proposal for it to move into an assurance/evaluation stage to review the actions taken in order to deliver the ORG recommendations.
The proposed changes out for consultation will have a significant impact on the future of the organisation and the position of the members’ voice within it. Your feedback will help shape the proposals to ensure they are in accordance with the members’ wishes and we would love to see you on the call to join and contribute at this important stage.
The webinar will take place on Zoom on Thursday 23rd July starting at 7pm.
