The Competitions Working Group formed up in January and is progressing well in preparing a recommendation for the Board before December 2019. This short update aims to give an overview of who we are, what we are doing and when you can expect to see outputs from the group.
The group is chaired by Rab Carrington and has representation from the Competitions Committee, Climb Scotland, the Association of British Climbing Walls, the BMC staff with responsibility for Competitions and the BMC's representative to the IFSC.
The group took the recommendation in the ORG report as it's start point and is then looking at what different structures could be used to better achieve the aims of Competition Climbing within the BMC and to represent the needs of the Members and all the stakeholders within Competition Climbing. A comparison of different nation's arrangements for Competition Climbing in relation to their other national mountaineering organisations has been conducted and feedback from discussions with other sporting national governing bodies has also been gathered. The group met most recently on the 18th April to discuss these findings and to start to put thoughts together on what the different options could be.
The group have a target of sending a finalised recommendation paper to the November Board of Directors, so that any decisions are known before the December National Council where the Competitions Committee are scheduled, alongside all other Specialist Committees, to bring their Terms of Reference and Forward Plan for agreement. Updates will be available here as we progress and will be sent out to Local Area meetings when feedback is requested.
