The Clubs Working Group has been set up as a sub-group of the Partnerships workstream and tasked with providing the Board with a recommended strategy to support clubs more effectively and to build deeper strategic relationships with them. The aim is to enable the BMC to harness the positive elements of clubs whilst ensuring that the collective views of clubs are heard at various levels of the BMC.
Since the working group was convened in November 2018 we have been working hard to map out the ways in which clubs are able to influence the BMC and also review what the BMC offers directly to clubs in terms of products or services. Using this we have started to identify potential ways the BMC could structure and interact with clubs more effectively.
As part of our research phase, we have identified several key target areas to aid development of existing clubs where additional support may be required in future. We have also recognised that the model of new climbing and walking clubs are changing, and will include this consideration as we review the BMC’s clubs provision to ensure the needs of all clubs are being met.
We will need your input on our ideas as we move into the next phases of our work and we intend to share and canvass your views in various ways. This will include a discussion session during the BMC AGM weekend (30-31 March), some face to face sessions with clubs from across the spectrum and to utilise the ODG’s comments system to gather club views directly.
Over the coming weeks, we will be reaching out to clubs with the opportunity for comment, including details of the discussion session at the AGM. In the meantime, any suggestions or comments on the work so far can be submitted via the form on the ODG site: https://odg.thebmc.co.uk/hc/en-gb/requests/new.
